Specialty Graphite is used to process exothermic welding molds
Exothermic welding, also known as aluminothermic welding, is a method of welding metal by using the heat generated by the exothermic reaction between metal oxides and aluminum.
Because the temperature in the inner cavity of the graphite mold rises rapidly to more than 2,000 degrees Celsius in a very short period during the aluminum thermal reaction, the thermal shock resistance of the graphite material is very important.
Graphite materials are widely used in the production of exothermic welding molds because of their excellent thermal conductivity, high-temperature resistance, high melting point, and low reactivity with molten metal.
During the exothermic welding process, a chemical reaction occurs between the welding powder and the metal to be welded, generating a large amount of heat. Graphite's extremely high thermal conductivity allows for rapid heat transfer, causing the mold to heat up quickly, melting the powder and the metal to be welded. The molten metal then fills the mold cavity and solidifies, forming a strong joint.
Specialty Graphite has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, which means that they do not expand or contract significantly at high temperatures. This property helps these materials maintain their shape and size during the welding process.
