Typical Applications of Synthetic Graphite

 

1. Glass industry

 

Graphite has a low coefficient of thermal expansion while being able to withstand rapid temperature changes. This makes it the material of choice for critical components in large-scale continuous float glass production lines. For example, in the production of thick float glass, specialty graphite is used to make retaining walls (also known as graphite dams), graphite seals for sulfur dioxide spraying, graphite baffles and flags for float tin baths, as well as a variety of other graphite components and oversized graphite products required for further glass processing.

 

2. Metallurgical industry

 

Specialty graphite are widely used in the metallurgical industry because of their good thermal shock resistance and electrical conductivity.

 

  • Graphite Rotors for Aluminum Melting

 

Graphite rotors are key components of aluminum alloy melting machines and are made of special graphite. SHJ special graphite has high density and strength, exhibits excellent resistance to thermal shock, is stable in high-temperature environments, and is impervious to erosion by molten aluminum metal.


In addition to supplying graphite materials for machining graphite rotors, we also offer machined products. In order to extend the service life of graphite rotors, our company has developed an antioxidant coating technology that significantly increases their life.

 

  • Precious Metal Smelting

 

Graphite is the material of choice for precious metal smelting and purification because of its excellent high temperature resistance, thermal conductivity, thermal shock resistance and low coefficient of thermal expansion.

  • Copper Continuous Casting Crystallizer

 

As a type of synthetic graphite, isostatic graphite is characterized by isotropy, uniform texture, good densification, high strength, excellent thermal conductivity and chemical resistance, which is very suitable for the processing of graphite crystals, and can improve casting speed and productivity.


The crystallizers made of our specialty graphite have highly polished inner surfaces, precise dimensions and small tolerances, thus achieving excellent copper drawing results and long service life.

 

3. Semiconductors

 

Components made of graphite blocks and rods play an important role in semiconductor manufacturing, and high-purity graphite in particular is widely used in processes such as crystal growth and epitaxy. These processes require graphite components with good physical properties such as high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance.


In addition, the industry has high demands on the purity and processing accuracy of graphite. We supply high-purity graphite with heat resistance and high mechanical strength for semiconductor production. We are also able to increase the purity of graphite processed parts to 5-50 ppm and customize the ash content to below 2 PPM.


SHJ Specialty Graphite can be used to process graphite thermal fields in single crystal furnaces, including heaters, crucibles, deflectors, and other components.

 

4. Heat Exchangers

 

With its excellent heat resistance, stable chemical properties and corrosion resistance, synthetic graphite are widely used in heat exchanger components.


The thermal and physical properties of the graphite materials make it an excellent heat transfer medium, well suited for highly corrosive processes used in industries such as chemical, metallurgical and pharmaceuticals, and cost effective.

 

5. EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining)

 

Artificial graphite has excellent properties that make it an ideal material for processing EDM electrodes. Specifically, it has excellent machinability and is well suited for designing high-precision, complex electrodes. Its ease of molding and machining enables the creation of complex and detailed EDM electrode profiles.

 

Besides, its low coefficient of thermal expansion means that there is very little dimensional change when the temperature changes. This allows graphite electrodes to maintain their shape and dimensions even when subjected to high temperatures during the EDM process.
