Preparation of monocrystalline silicon usually involves first preparing polycrystalline or amorphous silicon and then growing rods of monocrystalline silicon, which are mainly used in the fabrication of semiconductor components, from the melt by either the straight drawing method or the suspension zone fusion method.


Currently, the straight drawing method (CZ method) is a commonly used method for manufacturing monocrystalline silicon, which involves multiple steps in order to prepare monocrystalline silicon ingots. All processes used to grow semiconductor crystals take place at high temperatures and in harsh environments, so the hot zones of industrial crystal growth furnaces are often equipped with graphite components that are resistant to high temperatures and corrosion.
