Application of tubular and block-hole graphite heat exchangers

Graphite heat exchangers can be divided into tubular type, block hole type (round block hole type and rectangular block hole type), spray type, immersion type, casing type, plate type and spiral plate type according to their structure types. Among them, the tube type and block hole type are the most widely used.

 

Features of tubular graphite heat exchanger

 

Simple structure, convenient manufacturing; Graphite material has high utilization rate, low cost, large heat transfer area, large processing capacity and small medium flow resistance; Heat transfer efficiency is low, the coefficient of thermal conductivity of pressure type pipe is small, only impregnated graphite, allow the use of low pressure, generally used as a cooler. The ability of graphite element to bear tensile stress and bending stress is poor, so it is not suitable to be used in the occasion of strong impact, vibration and water hammer. Low temperature is allowed. As the thermal expansion coefficient of tube, tubesheet and binder is not consistent, the bond joint is easy to be damaged under the action of temperature stress in use.

 

Features of block hole graphite heat exchanger

 

Solid structure. Make full use of the high compressive strength of graphite materials. High operating pressure, can use high pressure steam heating, improve heat transfer temperature difference.

 

Compact structure, small footprint. Adaptable. Can be used for heating, cooling, condensation, evaporation and other chemical processes. Parts are easily disassembled and interchangeable. Graphite blocks are standard elements, and different heat transfer areas can be obtained by increasing or decreasing the number of elements. There is no need for bonding agent connection, avoiding the damage caused by the defects of the binder itself or the construction quality of the bonding joint of other types of graphite heat exchanger. Therefore, it can be used at higher temperatures and has a longer life. Higher heat transfer coefficient can be obtained. Graphite material has the characteristics of anisotropy, the heat transfer channel of block hole heat exchanger is drilled, which can make the heat flow direction and the best direction of block heat transfer consistent, so as to obtain higher heat transfer efficiency.
