The Raw Materials Of Special Carbon -- Petroleum Coke And Pitch Coke

Feb 22, 2023

In general, the industries that use coke (except petroleum coke and pitch coke, metallurgical coke, blue coke, etc.) include: blast furnace iron-making (carbon reducing agent), steel making (graphite electrode, carbon intensifier), ferroalloy (carbon reducing agent, electrode paste, carbon electrode, graphite electrode), electrolytic aluminum (prebaked anode, cathode) There is also the emerging lithium battery industry (carbon anode material) in the past two decades.

Petroleum coke and pitch coke are both used in lithium battery industry, but mainly petroleum coke and natural graphite. The raw materials used by different producers of special carbon are also different. Most of the molded and isostatic graphite of domestic special carbon plants use pitch coke, but there are also a few petroleum coke. The special carbon produced by these two raw materials has no obvious advantages or disadvantages.

Generally speaking, the hardness of special carbon produced by pitch coke is slightly higher, and the strength may be better. However, the resistivity of special carbon produced by petroleum coke is relatively low and the conductivity is good. However, it cannot be generalized. The quality of special carbon also depends on the production process level of each factory.
